it stays bright

that tiny star
always there
even through tear
it flickers
but stays
in the sky
of your eyes.
Through trouble
and frowns
it stays bright
then you smile
and this spark
brings to life
love’s radiation
and sight.

tracking of infinity

there are times
that come and go
that stain us,
       blanche us,
       cheer us too,
beyond these hours
is the residue
of minutes between
and the seconds that flow.

how in the mire
of this regularity
    this ticking,
          trudging,
          tracking of infinity,
can love be so arresting
that time stops so completely
in an endless scene
interlocked with eternity?

Grey matter equals dustbag?

There was a radio report in 1999, which told of a woman who had, thankfully, recovered her speech after suffering a stroke a few months earlier. However, to everyone’s surprise she no longer spoke with the accent of a Yorkshire woman? She now spoke with the beautiful lilt of a French woman, speaking perfect English! She had not studied French at school, and only spent a total of a month in France on two short holidays in the previous ten years.
A Frenchman thought her accent ‘naturalle’. Does our grey matter store everything?
18 days earlier it was reported that an American woman who after emerging from coma, speaks not in the soft tones of a Mississippi Gal but a cockney Londoner? She is even speaking in ‘rhyming slang’ and has never been abroad or knowingly met a Pearly King or Queen, indeed even an English person.
Is our supposedly unused grey matter a vacuum cleaner of events and our environment or perhaps anything our senses are exposed to? Did the Mississippi Gal see a movie or interview with Michael Caine or some other personality clowning about in interview with rhyming slang? That still leaves the question though why did these two brains after suffering trauma, grasp at one section of memory or was it the only memory left?

for my cousin Stuart, who recently went missing because of memory loss.

spaces poeming

who could be the robber,
who could, take it away?
Or you deprive:
the loss of fertile fantasy,
happy dreams, light bulb ideas,
human synapse electricity?
Or is there a component missing,
a toothless cog or some circuit broken
that once gave you
the high gear of emotion?

Anyone could be the robber....
if it is there to take...
but guard your fertile fantasy
whilst you're wide awake.
but sleep brings a lapse
of attention to your plight
as your mind is apprehended
in the velvet darkness called night..............

The first verse I posted last month in this blog and this was Sheena Ingrid’s response made as a comment, I liked it so wanted you all to see the two verses together!

where…….

where are you?

I look everywhere

for the foundation, something solid

on which to plant four feet

and enjoy the sun

and yet we have hardly begun.

Your laugh echoes

disturbing my natural compass

my balance, my wanting,

the happy but ricocheting sound

defies the possibility

of the physical mobility

so that we can simply meet

in measured, metered ground,

that suits your needs.

Should I build this place?

Should I continue searching

and end this eternal floating?

Is that you, behind the sky

that is so impenetrably clouded

by the devils of others’ reality?

Then an opaque realisation;

your shadow glanced there

but again only fresh earth bare.

Where are your footprints

in my tiny sphere of reference?

Is that your dear, soft face,

in the shattered reflection

of my pooled teardrops.

Please find my arms and make this stop……………

Plane attack

A plane flew over my bed
this morning, at 5.42
and after emerging from
the euphoria of this dream,
I had to help it through
as a veteran seizure surfer

By saying NO! out loud
and clasping my face, to the
the writhing and the coming pace
of heartbeat matching
the 747’s rolling thunder

Sound absorbed and now part of me,
I physically hold this jet at bay
NO! it will not be that way,
as I look at the clock display,
…………and rapidly write on this paper

where is Picasso’s heir?

The integration of thought and feeling must find expression in some form of creativity, an outpouring in its actioning!
Securing or anchoring thoughts to paper before they are overcome by more practical tangents is a simple necessity, rapidly being extinguished in the age of telephony, that requires mobility but strangely not personal contact?
Staying on the perimeter of closest friends’ lives to retain: the fashionable, any moment contact, to appear ‘cool’ or ‘with it’, and even perhaps to attain ‘street credibility’, be accepted, even achieve equality of sorts with one’s peers, is apparently essential!
But the essence of constant availability for communication through accepted, if not embraced technology is wholly dependant on more and more isolation of the individual.
How often on the high street or in a nightclub, I wonder, does someone talk loudly to their mobile or cell phone or furiously thumb type messages to people who never answer or who simply do not exist, despite an overloaded SIM directory of contacts?
If all the energy devoted to communication, networking and interacting was applied to some form of creativity how many more great musicians, painters or writers would blossom and make so many other lives endurable. That is not a claim that art provides relief from super highway stress, but certainly provides pleasure and of course indirectly effects more practical creativity such as design, architecture or engineering etc
Is the heir’s line engaged?

Screens and images

Take a look at these photos from Sky Arts competition - wow! Although there is a heavy reliance on simply recording nature and what naturally occurs for subject matter. A matter of record should not be the only function of art in any media, illustrated by the rabbit.

http://www.skyarts.co.uk/art-design/article/digital-photographer-of-the-year/

Some pictures are stunning, but most of all it is so good to see such an eclectic entry. Have a nice day everyone, I hope these pictures help with your simple enjoyment of your time engaged with these screens!

vacant space

I wake to your empty pillow
still showing some form there,
the feather fill resists the pull
to roll back to unused round.

It still smells of your sweetness
and I want you here, how selfish
to share the sun’s grand rise,
through slats that lit your face,
when you wake me in the morning
and hug me in the dawn.

Touch, the most electric of connections.
The power behind closeness and unity,
that is what this vacant space presents
the power of finger-tip reality.

presents

had a nice quiet birthday week, brother sent me a card with the wrong number on it! everybody sent me DVD's, the echoed "we just don't know what to get you" - from the most intellectual to the most trashy (all loved) of friends,….. so this place is now a relative cinema, maybe I should charge at the door?
In about 2 weeks there will be the slow but quiet enquiry, “that film we bought you Dave, was it any good”? “I was thinking of buying for myself” and other hints will be heaved. I’ll pretend I don't realise they want to borrow it.
The other things were very expensive trash like a printed painting on a plate of my football team, (my very minimalist home doesn’t fit). and why did the ceramics people pick a guy who can't paint!? oh!!! and the white and silver touch screen Su Doku game branded by a famous game show assistant, probably cost a fortune to look that bad!
One year someone will ask me for what I want and come up with the goods. Anyhow………..its pancake time!!!!

Minnie & Mickey

Today I have to letter type,
because of a Christmas bite.
No not of the cold, a tale of old,
of a chef who is always right!

A traditional set meal,
(not including service)
at a fixed price,
pre-chosen lobster from the ice,
and Christmas pud that’s nice.

You see the restaurateur,
to spare his staff,
wanted everything sorted,
pre-arranged, in advance.

“But its Christmas Sir”, he said to me,
as I pulled out my credit card,
‘transaction incomplete’,
while protesting that
the total was a little hard?

Because he’d cheffed at Disneyland
he seemed to think that I was Mickey
and couldn’t subtract deposits,
from receipts when I left with Minnie.

He still has my money to this day
because the banks and Amex,
are fighting hard just to hold on!
Its obvious from the phone,
they wish that I had none!

So a virtual service charge
of 50% IS a little steep!
This is not the Hilton chef,
this is reality now,
you are on the High Street!!

Icons

arrow

Its actually over a year since the icons or ‘buttons’ so well designed and well used on other mail software if not software, have been missing from Hotmail let alone Live Mail.

Simplicity may have been a demand of the user consultation but they must have been pretty ancient as nearly a generation and a half have now, been 'reading' icons on screens of ever decreasing size for 20 years.  helpI was almost relieved to find the uproar on complaint posts; basically asking,
Where the hell are my icons! Why words?
As a designer I can assure Microsoft, that Mackintosh's invention of icons is now universally used for good reason because logos and symbols are the essence of brain reaction speed!
I will light a candle immediately and meditate for your speedy recovery Microsoft because you are visually, driving people away.
